5 Must Have Kitchen Appliances

A kitchen is a room or part of a room used for cooking and food preparation. A modern kitchen is typically equipped with various appliances and the kitchen cabinets arranged according to modular design.
When you want a modern kitchen, there are many appliances you can buy to enhance your kitchen. Below are the essential 5 appliances you should have on your list.

1. Cooker- what really makes a kitchen, if not for the food that is been prepared there. The cooker/stove which comes in either as Electric or Gas appliance does all the job.
The cooker can be a stand alone gadget or a hub which will be fitted on the granite. It does comes in certain sizes (600mm, 800mm, 900mm and 1000mm)

 2. Extractor Hood- whenever there is a cooking point, there should always be a heat/smoke extractor. This does the above mention job well enough to keep the kitchen smoke free while cooking is ongoing.
The extractor usually has two sizes 600mm and 900mm depending on the size of your cooker hub. It is positioned at a specified height just above the cooking area (*650mm which actually depends on the manufacturer)

 3. Oven- some stand alone cookers comes with oven while in built oven can be bought separately to be installed in cabinet of its own. It comes in two particular sizes (600mm and 900mm). The oven can be used for baking, roasting, grilling and all sort of things.

4.Dish Washer- when all is said and done, the sink gets the trash. But who wants to start doing dishes after the stress of cooking especially after a hard days work. Load your dish washer and get the work done in no time while u do some other meaningful things.
The dish washer can also be a stand alone appliance or a fitted appliance as seen in the above picture. They are usually in 600mm width.

 5. Microwave - when you need to warm that meal quickly without using the cooker,  the microwave is your friend. This appliance usually comes in 600mm sizes and it either free standing or console type. They different types does the same work, however, the console microwave makes your kitchen more tidy and classy as in the above picture.

Thanks for your time. Join us next week for updates on Kitchen accessories u can't afford not to have in your modern kitchen.

*refer to your installation manual for the approved height by the manufacturer.

The Black Kitchen

Hello everyone, so it happened that i got a call on a certain weekend from a prospective client interested in our work. We fixed an appointment to meet the next day which was a Saturday. It turned out that he saw some of our designs and projects online and got interested in them, long story short we were to handle his project #HomeFurniture. This includes #Kitchen cabinets and #wardrobe closets.
We agreed to start with the kitchen and the design was approved in no time as soon as all the things he wanted were incorporated.

The Client picked a Black laminate for the kitchen, and as usual we use MFC boards.
We gave him a project timeline of 7 working days! Which brought about the project#KitchenIn7Days. As soon as we received advance payment, we started the material purchase and production.

The breakdown of our Programme of Work is as follows :
Day 1 Monday: Material and Accessories purchase.
Day 2 Tuesday : Production ( Cutting and Edging or board)
Day 3 Wednesday : Logistics ( Transportation to site)
Day 4 Thursday : Installation commenced.
Day 5 Friday: Installation continues.
Saturday : Sourcing of Kitchen Equipments and Special Accessories. (watch out for my post on this)
Day 6 Monday: Rounding off Installation and fixing the Kitchen equipments and fittings.
Day 7 Tuesday: Granite installation and cleaning.

When we informed him of completing the kitchen within 7 working days he was impressed, when we kept our promise, he was wowed!

Installation pictures

We would not have achieved this if not for the joint effort of other professionals working on this project together.

At the end of Day 6, before granite installation.

Watch out for our post on Kitchen accessories and equipments you can't afford not to have.
Thanks for your time. Comment section is below as always.

Benefits of Sliding Wardrobe Doors

Sliding wardrobe doors offer numerous positive aspects over traditional, hinged doors. Sliding doors can be installed to suit virtually any situation and in a large choice of colours and finishes.

Why choose sliding wardrobe doors? Sliding wardrobe doors don’t extend out into the bedroom when opened, consequently much less clearance is required in between the wardrobes and other fixtures inside the room.

As there is no requirement for the doors to hold their own weight from a single edge, a broader selection of materials may be employed, like decorative mirrors, frosted glass, coloured glass and wood effect panels. You’ll be able to even mix and match materials and features. Just like, you could possibly choose to have a full-length mirror in the centre panel with a totally different finish at either side. Horizontal breaks let you to create a contrast of colours and finishes.

Sliding doors makes it possible for a broader opening within a single door width, this means you are able to gain access to much more of your wardrobe all at once without having to open and close a number of doors. Sliding wardrobe systems can be outfitted with a substantial range of internal storage solutions to cater for whatever you will need to store. From hanging rails to shoe racks, everything can be accommodated and very easily reached.

Sliding wardrobe doors are usually considered as being a modern answer to bedroom storage, but by using high quality woods, including cherry or oak, a classical appearance can be accomplished. A selection of light and dark surface finishes is offered to match current furnishings and decoration. If the more modern look is required, glass panels come in many different colours. Your sliding wardrobes can become the principle feature in the room and create an eye-catching center point.

Sliding wardrobe doors don’t have to be limited to just the bedroom though.

De-clutter your garage by employing attractive sliding door storage. From sports gear, childrens’ toys and games, hiking items to tools can be discretely concealed behind attractive sliding doors. Sliding door storage in the garage may be fitted over any convenient wall and equipped with ingenious options so that everything stays organized and accessible. Pull-out storage and compartments ensure it is easy to arrange smaller things and shelves facilitates safe-keeping of larger, cumbersome items.

Lots of living rooms are required to accommodate growing collections of CDs, DVDs and also other media, which are generally kept on shelving or maybe in boxes. Enhance your living space by changing a wall into a spacious storage space, protected by appealing sliding panels to preserve your media library out of sight and clear of airborne dirt and dust and damage. Many different shelving possibilities are offered to cater to all manner of different sized items, from CDs up to large books or additional cushions and throw-overs.

The hallway in every house is susceptible to attracting chaos and confusion. Boots and shoes, jackets and hand bags will often be disregarded, and not only do they look untidy, but could also be a trip danger. By simply installing sliding storage solutions, you may provide an accessible place to keep the things you use most frequently. Inside, hanging space is usually given for jackets and shoe racks are obtainable in order that the floor is kept unobstructed. Tall spaces may be left open so that you can stow housekeeping equipment, and drawers can provide a place to keep other items including catalogues, household bills and papers. If required, you might incorporate a full length mirror to check your appearance in advance of moving out.

Properly fitted sliding wardrobes are created from the maximum quality materials and parts with a comprehensive guarantee on all parts. Professionally installed sliding door systems are constructed to a higher standard compared to systems bought at DIY outlets.

7 Ways To Lay Your Bed

1. You put your top sheet pattern-up

If you have a patterned top sheet, it's not much use to you pattern-up: The pattern will only be displayed from the back side when you fold it over the duvet, making it looked washed-out. For a truly magazine-ready bed, put your top sheet pattern-down, so it shows up correctly when folded.

2. You skip over hospital corners

You may be tempted to say they don't matter — however you tuck in your sheets will look great, right? Not so fast. Hospital corners are classic for a reason, because they make the entire bed look taut, polished, and elegant. And really, they're not that hard to do. Follow the instructions at Lifehacker.

3. You don't make your bed every morning

We've told you this before: That rumor that your bed needs to "air out"? It's but a myth. Make your bed every morning and after a while, you won't feel like you've properly started your day without tucking in your sheets. (Hint: It's actually easier to start smoothing your sheets while you're in the bed!)

We Recommend
4. You're not ironing your sheets

Yes, it's a pain, but it makes a huge difference in the look and feel of your bed. Certain fabrics don't need ironing (like flannel) but if your sheets are made from linen or cotton, take the time. No one likes to cuddle up with wrinkled sheets.

5. You don't put on your duvet inside-out

Struggling with your duvet? Here's a tip: Turn it inside out, match it up to the end of the comforter, and slide it back on that way. The process can be so much easier.

6. You're not using your duvet ties

Speaking of, if you're lucky enough to have both a duvet with ties and a comforter with slots — use them! It's a brilliant way to keep a mussy duvet in place, even after a full night of tossing and turning.

7. You haven't added any decor

If your bed currently consists solely of sheets, a plain comforter, and a pillow or two, consider upgrading your accessories. A few coordinating throw pillows or blankets can help tie the bed — and the room — together.

10 THINGS EVERY KID'S CLOSET MUST HAVE

Kids grow fast and so do their ever-changing wardrobes. Here, Lisa Adams, founder of LA Closet Design (and closet extraordinaire), tells us the must-have items that will help your kids stay organized from the start and help their closet grow with them.

1. Two (or three) levels of hanging rods.

"Kids are lucky enough to be shorter than adults,"says Adams. "This makes it possible for them to utilize their space more efficiently!" Instead of one row of hanging rods, like most adult closets, they can use two or three. Install multiple rows to give them access to their clothes and create more room.  Is the higher hanging rod out of reach? Utilize it for storing those items you may not want your child to have free access to.

2. Stepping Stool.

Have them pick out a fun stool they love and use it as a fun part of cleaning up. "Kids love climbing up and down stepping stools to access out-of-reach spaces."

3. Color.

"Adding color to a kid's closet will give it personality." Pick a fun hue that your child will love.

4. Hamper.

"Having a hamper makes it easy for a child to keep dirty clothes organized!" Make a game of it from the start and it will become a part of their routine.

5. Wall Hooks.

These help utilize the extra wall space not covered by rods and shelving. Plus, it's "great book bag storage," says Adams.  Added bonus: set aside a special hook for hanging the next day's clothes up.

6. Junk Drawer.

Ok, well not junk, but a drawer for pencils, erasers and miscellaneous school supplies is a must have for every scholarly child!

7. Pull-Down Rods.

This is a great solution for smaller closets. "These [rods] make clothes hung high accessible from the ground with the push of a button!" Not only does this give the child a whole other level of storage without climbing too high, it gives them the responsibility of tidying up or getting dressed without having to ask for your help.

8. A designated spot for shoes.

"Pullout shelves or shoe cubbies make storing children's shoes easy!" Goodbye, digging through seemingly endless bins!

9. Shallow drawers.

"Shallow drawers are much easier to keep organized than deep drawers," and everything is easier to see.

10. Kids' Hangers.

"Some children's clothing falls off hangers made for adults. Simple solution: buy kids hangers that are size appropriate."

10 CHEAP WAYS TO MAKE YOUR KITCHEN LOOK EXPENSIVE

1. Update hardware. Hardware can completely change the look of a piece of furniture and it can do the same for your cabinets. Replace drawer and cabinet pulls for a new unique look that instantly updates your entire space.

2. Paint a lighter color. A light color on the walls and cabinets instantly brightens a space making it look larger and in turn, more expensive. Light colors reflect light and hide a multitude of sins, including those scratches, dings and dents in your old cabinets.

3. Replace Cabinet Doors. Replacing old worn out cabinet doors with new ones or sanding and refinishing your old ones will give your kitchen a sleek new look. Bring in glass, or high-gloss doors for a dose of glam or forgo the doors in some areas and create open shelving to show off your nicest pieces.

4. Change lighting. Chandeliers and pendents are the perfect accessory to not only brighten your kitchen but change the mood of the space. Standard lights that come in most homes and rentals are uniform, change it up and give the most used room in your house some personality or an unexpected element.

5. Use artwork. Artwork is a great way to elevate any room and it will do the same in your kitchen. Don't be afraid to go big and bold—it will give the illusion of a bigger space. Art is also a great option for renters who don't have the freedom to change everything they'd like to.

6. Paint Your Appliances Stainless Steel. Don't have stainless steel appliances? No problem. Use a paint-on stainless steel finish to update your appliances that still work well but are giving your kitchen a dated feel. Be careful, companies make different types if this liquid stainless steel depending on the appliance and its use.

7. Window treatment. Dress up your bare windows to instantly dress up your kitchen.

8. Style your breakfast nook. Add throw pillows, a centerpiece and fresh flowers to give your breakfast spot some style.

9. Replace an old bowl or decorative elements. Change out your fruit bowl with beautiful chinoiserie or a bowl or tray for a subtle change that makes a big difference.

10. Hide small appliances. A no-cost trick! Nothing brings down a space more than clutter. Keep your counter space clear of small appliances like toasters, blenders and coffee pots— They are easy enough to take out when you want to use them.

8 SIMPLE WAYS TO MAKE YOUR BEDROOM LOOK EXPENSIVE

Overfill your throw pillows. There's something so luxurious about plush, overfilled throw pillows, which go a long way in transforming your bedroom from "everyday" to a bonafide retreat that emulates the most sumptuous of hotels.

Add a hanging light fixture. The boob lights have got to go. Replace them with a statement-making hanging light or a glamorous chandelier. No need to spend too much money.

Rethink your nightstand. If you're anything like us, your nightstand is a hodgepodge of essential items: Hand creams, charging cords, half-full glasses of water, quarter-finished novels. It's time to rethink how that's all displayed. Hide some things away in a drawer; display small items in a beautiful tray.

Focus on the statement pieces. A dark wood bed frame; a gorgeous gilded dresser; a velvet arm chair — each bedroom has its own centerpiece, but make sure it's the room's focus. Don't clutter the room with too much furniture, instead letting each piece stand on its own.

We Recommend
Keep the floor empty. Granted, this is more of an organization and cleanliness tip, but don't let that belie its importance: A cluttered bedroom never looks luxurious, so keep the floor clean and orderly — that means no stacks of books and piles of extension cords, either.

Upgrade your hardware. There's no reason to keep the default hardware that came with your dresser and nightstands (unless, of course, it's already visually stunning!). Replacing hardware is a cheap and easy way to upgrade your room, and there are so many ways to personalize the look: Crystal, gemstone, copper, and so many more.

Reorganize your vanity. Just like your nightstand, a cluttered vanity can make your whole bedroom look messy. Now's a good time to buy some makeup organizers, like these inexpensive stackable acrylic chests from The Container Store.

Add greenery. As always, the quickest and easiest way to upgrade your room from "average" to "expensive-looking" is to add some greenery. What form this takes is up to you: A large fern? Small potted plants on your dresser? No matter how, adding a few plants helps a room make the final leap to luxury.

Walk-In Closet?

When designing a walk-in closet, get a good idea of the minimum width the closet should be, which is essential in dictating just how much space any bedroom requires to have a walk-in closet. For many designers, this is the standard by which they begin planning and designing rooms.

The Basics

  • Walk-in closets require two essential components: space to walk in and room for hanging clothes. The former requires at least 30 inches (750mm). Typically, a person of average size will want this much room just to stand or walk comfortably without bumping into anything. Large people require a little more room, up to 36 inches (900mm). Shelving takes up about 600mm of space. Combine these two essentials, and the minimum width for any walk-in closet is 1500mm.

Larger Closets

  • A larger walk-in closet may be anywhere from 2000mm - 6000mm wide. The larger end of this range is for two-person walk-in closets storing lots of clothing, shoes and other accessories. The larger walk-in closet is only feasible in homes with very big rooms and lots of spare space; otherwise, the size of the walk-in takes away space that otherwise is reserved for living. You have many reasons to build walk-ins this large, but the main one is storage space. With 6000mm of wall space, numerous shelves and clothing racks are a possibility. So you can store dozens of clothing items and hundreds of shoes if needed.

Small Closet Advantages

  • A smaller walk-in closet has advantages over large closets. With a minimum width of 1500mm, a larger bedroom is a possibility even in smaller homes. A walk-in of this size still has plenty of room for clothing. With a double-hung rack, meaning two closet rods hung one on top of the other, your clothing hanging space is doubled. Since the walk-in also has depth, closet rods can be hung on one wall and shelving on the other, which is important to consider when choosing your walk-in closet size. Making the closet a little larger, say 6 feet square, only adds storage space without taking away too much space from the room.

Choosing the Right Width

  • One person usually needs 1200mm of closet rod space to hang up her clothes. This same person will use three to four 300-500mm high shelves to store the rest of her non-hanging clothes like sweaters and shorts. If you install two double stacked rods along one wall, each at least 1200mm long, that provides space for two people to hang their clothing. You have room for additional shelving on adjacent walls. Up to the full 5 feet of space is available to install shelves, assuming the double hanging rods do not extend all the way to the other adjacent wall. If they do, the width of the hanging area will take up 600mm of space on the adjacent wall.
