5 Must Have Kitchen Appliances

A kitchen is a room or part of a room used for cooking and food preparation. A modern kitchen is typically equipped with various appliances and the kitchen cabinets arranged according to modular design.
When you want a modern kitchen, there are many appliances you can buy to enhance your kitchen. Below are the essential 5 appliances you should have on your list.

1. Cooker- what really makes a kitchen, if not for the food that is been prepared there. The cooker/stove which comes in either as Electric or Gas appliance does all the job.
The cooker can be a stand alone gadget or a hub which will be fitted on the granite. It does comes in certain sizes (600mm, 800mm, 900mm and 1000mm)

 2. Extractor Hood- whenever there is a cooking point, there should always be a heat/smoke extractor. This does the above mention job well enough to keep the kitchen smoke free while cooking is ongoing.
The extractor usually has two sizes 600mm and 900mm depending on the size of your cooker hub. It is positioned at a specified height just above the cooking area (*650mm which actually depends on the manufacturer)

 3. Oven- some stand alone cookers comes with oven while in built oven can be bought separately to be installed in cabinet of its own. It comes in two particular sizes (600mm and 900mm). The oven can be used for baking, roasting, grilling and all sort of things.

 4.Dish Washer- when all is said and done, the sink gets the trash. But who wants to start doing dishes after the stress of cooking especially after a hard days work. Load your dish washer and get the work done in no time while u do some other meaningful things.
The dish washer can also be a stand alone appliance or a fitted appliance as seen in the above picture. They are usually in 600mm width.

 5. Microwave - when you need to warm that meal quickly without using the cooker,  the microwave is your friend. This appliance usually comes in 600mm sizes and it either free standing or console type. They different types does the same work, however, the console microwave makes your kitchen more tidy and classy as in the above picture.

Thanks for your time. Join us next week for updates on Kitchen accessories u can't afford not to have in your modern kitchen.

*refer to your installation manual for the approved height by the manufacturer.

Benefits of Sliding Wardrobe Doors

Sliding wardrobe doors offer numerous positive aspects over traditional, hinged doors. Sliding doors can be installed to suit virtually any situation and in a large choice of colours and finishes.

Why choose sliding wardrobe doors? Sliding wardrobe doors don’t extend out into the bedroom when opened, consequently much less clearance is required in between the wardrobes and other fixtures inside the room.

As there is no requirement for the doors to hold their own weight from a single edge, a broader selection of materials may be employed, like decorative mirrors, frosted glass, coloured glass and wood effect panels. You’ll be able to even mix and match materials and features. Just like, you could possibly choose to have a full-length mirror in the centre panel with a totally different finish at either side. Horizontal breaks let you to create a contrast of colours and finishes.

Sliding doors makes it possible for a broader opening within a single door width, this means you are able to gain access to much more of your wardrobe all at once without having to open and close a number of doors. Sliding wardrobe systems can be outfitted with a substantial range of internal storage solutions to cater for whatever you will need to store. From hanging rails to shoe racks, everything can be accommodated and very easily reached.

Sliding wardrobe doors are usually considered as being a modern answer to bedroom storage, but by using high quality woods, including cherry or oak, a classical appearance can be accomplished. A selection of light and dark surface finishes is offered to match current furnishings and decoration. If the more modern look is required, glass panels come in many different colours. Your sliding wardrobes can become the principle feature in the room and create an eye-catching center point.

Sliding wardrobe doors don’t have to be limited to just the bedroom though.

De-clutter your garage by employing attractive sliding door storage. From sports gear, childrens’ toys and games, hiking items to tools can be discretely concealed behind attractive sliding doors. Sliding door storage in the garage may be fitted over any convenient wall and equipped with ingenious options so that everything stays organized and accessible. Pull-out storage and compartments ensure it is easy to arrange smaller things and shelves facilitates safe-keeping of larger, cumbersome items.

Lots of living rooms are required to accommodate growing collections of CDs, DVDs and also other media, which are generally kept on shelving or maybe in boxes. Enhance your living space by changing a wall into a spacious storage space, protected by appealing sliding panels to preserve your media library out of sight and clear of airborne dirt and dust and damage. Many different shelving possibilities are offered to cater to all manner of different sized items, from CDs up to large books or additional cushions and throw-overs.

The hallway in every house is susceptible to attracting chaos and confusion. Boots and shoes, jackets and hand bags will often be disregarded, and not only do they look untidy, but could also be a trip danger. By simply installing sliding storage solutions, you may provide an accessible place to keep the things you use most frequently. Inside, hanging space is usually given for jackets and shoe racks are obtainable in order that the floor is kept unobstructed. Tall spaces may be left open so that you can stow housekeeping equipment, and drawers can provide a place to keep other items including catalogues, household bills and papers. If required, you might incorporate a full length mirror to check your appearance in advance of moving out.

Properly fitted sliding wardrobes are created from the maximum quality materials and parts with a comprehensive guarantee on all parts. Professionally installed sliding door systems are constructed to a higher standard compared to systems bought at DIY outlets.

7 Ways To Lay Your Bed

1. You put your top sheet pattern-up

If you have a patterned top sheet, it's not much use to you pattern-up: The pattern will only be displayed from the back side when you fold it over the duvet, making it looked washed-out. For a truly magazine-ready bed, put your top sheet pattern-down, so it shows up correctly when folded.

2. You skip over hospital corners

You may be tempted to say they don't matter — however you tuck in your sheets will look great, right? Not so fast. Hospital corners are classic for a reason, because they make the entire bed look taut, polished, and elegant. And really, they're not that hard to do. Follow the instructions at Lifehacker.

3. You don't make your bed every morning

We've told you this before: That rumor that your bed needs to "air out"? It's but a myth. Make your bed every morning and after a while, you won't feel like you've properly started your day without tucking in your sheets. (Hint: It's actually easier to start smoothing your sheets while you're in the bed!)

We Recommend
4. You're not ironing your sheets

Yes, it's a pain, but it makes a huge difference in the look and feel of your bed. Certain fabrics don't need ironing (like flannel) but if your sheets are made from linen or cotton, take the time. No one likes to cuddle up with wrinkled sheets.

5. You don't put on your duvet inside-out

Struggling with your duvet? Here's a tip: Turn it inside out, match it up to the end of the comforter, and slide it back on that way. The process can be so much easier.

6. You're not using your duvet ties

Speaking of, if you're lucky enough to have both a duvet with ties and a comforter with slots — use them! It's a brilliant way to keep a mussy duvet in place, even after a full night of tossing and turning.

7. You haven't added any decor

If your bed currently consists solely of sheets, a plain comforter, and a pillow or two, consider upgrading your accessories. A few coordinating throw pillows or blankets can help tie the bed — and the room — together.

8 SIMPLE WAYS TO MAKE YOUR BEDROOM LOOK EXPENSIVE

Overfill your throw pillows. There's something so luxurious about plush, overfilled throw pillows, which go a long way in transforming your bedroom from "everyday" to a bonafide retreat that emulates the most sumptuous of hotels.

Add a hanging light fixture. The boob lights have got to go. Replace them with a statement-making hanging light or a glamorous chandelier. No need to spend too much money.

Rethink your nightstand. If you're anything like us, your nightstand is a hodgepodge of essential items: Hand creams, charging cords, half-full glasses of water, quarter-finished novels. It's time to rethink how that's all displayed. Hide some things away in a drawer; display small items in a beautiful tray.

Focus on the statement pieces. A dark wood bed frame; a gorgeous gilded dresser; a velvet arm chair — each bedroom has its own centerpiece, but make sure it's the room's focus. Don't clutter the room with too much furniture, instead letting each piece stand on its own.

We Recommend
Keep the floor empty. Granted, this is more of an organization and cleanliness tip, but don't let that belie its importance: A cluttered bedroom never looks luxurious, so keep the floor clean and orderly — that means no stacks of books and piles of extension cords, either.

Upgrade your hardware. There's no reason to keep the default hardware that came with your dresser and nightstands (unless, of course, it's already visually stunning!). Replacing hardware is a cheap and easy way to upgrade your room, and there are so many ways to personalize the look: Crystal, gemstone, copper, and so many more.

Reorganize your vanity. Just like your nightstand, a cluttered vanity can make your whole bedroom look messy. Now's a good time to buy some makeup organizers, like these inexpensive stackable acrylic chests from The Container Store.

Add greenery. As always, the quickest and easiest way to upgrade your room from "average" to "expensive-looking" is to add some greenery. What form this takes is up to you: A large fern? Small potted plants on your dresser? No matter how, adding a few plants helps a room make the final leap to luxury.

Color Blocking In Home Decor – Tips And Inspirations

You’ve seen it all over the runways and now color blocking is transitioning from  the fashion scene into the realm of home decor. Here’s how to use this vibrant trend to add modern flair to your living space in just no time.

Ever since Yves St. Laurent interpreted Mondrian’s cubist compositions on a woolen dress, color blocking has periodically made a comeback to the runways. And it was only a matter of time until interior designers found the trend incredibly captivating. Today color blocking is not just for clothes anymore – it has moved from hauteur couture ateliers to our homes and makes heaps of a difference with its bold splashes of geometric color.
{Source}
What is actually color blocking?
Color blocking is a striking trend that has periodically returned to catwalks since the ‘70s, and is currently extending from the world of fashion to home décor and event design. It is done by pairing bold colors with no particular concern of necessarily matching them with any reason. The idea is to use contrasting blocks of solid color rather than stripes, textures or patterns, hence the name. While it is hypersaturated mixes that lie at the heart of  color-blocking, subtler versions are also possible, which makes the trend quite flexible and universal.

About the color choices
You may think color blocking is too bold an option – because that’s the first impression we get looking at the most popular color-blocked designs – but it is not necessarily true. The trend can be used to create both sophisticated and fun looks, and while it is perhaps most stunning in dazzling color combinations, it is not all about striking contrasts and looks beautiful in subtle, monochromatic versions, too. In other words, the possibilities are endless, from mild to wild.

Mild
The easiest way to take advantage of color blocking for a subtle effect is to keep everything within the same color family, i.e. to choose different hues of the same color, such mint cream, pistachio and sea green or pale pink, French rose and amaranth. You can also use colors from different families, where two could be neutrals and one could be a brighter shade. Color-blocking looks best when used upon neutral bases, so if your space is predominantly “pale”, it only works to your favor.

{Source}
 Wild
Color blocking is a dream trend for those who really want to make a statement. Make it wild and neon if you dare, but remember the design can turn overwhelming if there are too many dazzling shades competing for attention. While it’s okay to pair three intense colors, the safest formula that guarantees harmony and good balance is “one bright, one bold, one neutral”. This way you will maximize the impact of each color and avoid blinding your guest. The combination should attract attention, but remain easy on the eye.

{Source}
If you’re not confident choosing colors that work, try to find inspiration around you. Perhaps you could use a palette in your favorite piece of artwork? Flip through magazines for colors combinations that resonate with you or browse the web for palette ideas. Design Seeds is a good place to start, and so are the photo sharing services such as Pinterest, Indulgy or Dwellinggawker.

Walls
Not scared to make a dramatic statement and thinking of a big splash of color on your walls? Color blocking may be just the technique you’re looking for. One way to incorporate the trend is to paint one or two accent walls in your favorite contrasting shades and scatter complementary items throughout the room to tie it together.

Another popular trend is to select zones on a wall or ceiling and paint geometric shapes that stand out from the main wall color. It is a relatively easy project to carry out, but do pay attention to detail and prepare well before you grab the paintbrush. Measure your shape on the wall, drawing very lightly with a pencil. Then use painter’s tape to make sure the lines will be perfectly straight and apply small amounts of paint so it does not seep outside the lines. If you want to paint circles or other shapes with curved lines, it’s best to use a stencil.

Furniture
Pops of color used in pieces of furniture always make high impact on the overall décor, even if it’s just one bright chair or a table lamp. The key to making color-block makeovers successful is to give them a proper background. Whether it’s a designer piece or an old flea market find that you give new life to, they will enhance your rooms a great deal if you use them upon neutral bases.

Wallpapering or painting the interiors of cabinets or shelves in alternating hues is a fun way to work a good dose of color blocking into your décor.
You don’t need to limit yourself to just two or three shades. This kitchen is a stunning example of how color blocking can transform a bland, simplistic space into a totally unique, artful design. The cabinets bring in tons of personality and fanciful rhythm, but the white backdrop keeps them from looking circusy. Sometimes “going all out” is what makes all the difference.

Of course, you can always take the ambitious road and use a color wheel, the trend is all about fun so enjoy it!

Are Granite Countertops Right for You?

There is something elegant about the look and feel of granite countertops! This elegance alone, is enough reason for many home and business owners to decide to use it their space. After all, it adds an air of opulence while still being usable and, some might even say, practical. But, are granite countertops right for every space? The answer to that depends greatly on who will be using the space and be responsible for any maintenance needs.

So, if you find yourself faced with choosing whether to use granite, marble or perhaps some other natural material as a countertop, you will want to be sure you understand the positives and negatives of the beautiful stone known as granite.

  • Granite countertops come in over 3,000 colors and do not fade with time. Also, each slab has its own unique pattern and movement, so no matter your style of color scheme, you are certain to find something that works for your space.
  • There are dozens of custom edges and finishes from which to choose, thus allowing you to create a totally custom look.
  • Granite countertops, when properly sealed and maintained, are virtually scratch, stain and chip resistant; of course, that doesn't mean you should throw out your kitchen cutting boards and do your prep work directly on the countertop!
  • If you love to bake, then it is a great choice as it is perfect for making cookies, candies, bread dough and other foods that are best prepared on a cool surface.
  • It is heat resistant. If you forget to grab a heat pad for that 400-degree pizza pan, it won't matter-granite is created by heat, so setting something hot on it, isn't going to hurt it!
  • The only surface that is harder than granite is a diamond.
  • Granite countertops add a minimum of 10% to the re-sale value to your home.
  • It will last for years. This is both a positive and a negative as that means your investment is well worth it; however, should you have granite installed and later decide you don't like it then removal can be costly and chances are, you will need new cabinets, too.
  • Granite is not overly porous (unlike marble) making it chemical and acid resistant.

Negative Characteristics of Granite
  • Cost-granite is expensive because of labor for its removal from the quarry, the work involved in cutting it and then installation.
  • It does not have a uniform pattern or color and contains natural cracks or pits. These "imperfections" are actually, what lends to its beauty and "movement" but if one likes things completely uniform, then this may not be the best choice.
  • It cannot be used as a cutting board because it will dull your knives.
  • Granite countertops should be installed by a qualified professional-it is not a do it yourself project!
  • Granite countertops need to have the sealant re-applied a least once every two years to prevent staining or fading.
  • Seams are visible, regardless of how good the installer is. Ideally, an installer will endeavor to have seams in areas where they least likely to be noticed
Granite is a beautiful choice in countertop covering. It can make a drab or basic space look elegant and rich.

15 Tricks To Make A Small Room Appear Bigger

Small apartments are practical and give an appealing sense of intimacy, but no one likes to feel cramped and overwhelmed with stuff. Here’s how you can trick the eye and make your space seem much bigger than it really is.
Some choose to live on limited square footage because they don’t want to deal with too much cleaning and maintenance. Others simply have no choice. Whatever your situation, a sense of spaciousness and comfort is always welcome – and that’s what small apartment dwellers are often challenged with.

Small is cute and cozy, but there are a couple of downsides, too. Rooms that lack space tend to be confining by their very nature, and there are still all those personal belongings accumulated over the years and household goods that you have to find place for.

When decorated at random, small living spaces can really feel cluttered, chaotic and cramped, but luckily, there are some easy fixes that you can use to make a small room look more airy.  Color techniques, clever choice of furniture, proper arrangement and some other easy fixes will help you create the illusion of extra space in your home.

Lighten it up
This one is really a no-brainer. Just like with clothes, dark colors make things seem smaller and slimmer, but this is not what we’re trying to achieve here. If you want to make a small living area appear bigger than it really is, don’t paint the walls chocolate brown or polo blue.
Light colors, on the other hand, are fabulous space expanders. They make the room feel open and airy as they are more reflective and enhance the effect created and by natural light. Some of the colors that will instantly turn a compact interior into a seemingly bigger space are icy blues, creams, pale gray and light greens . Also, lightening up the floor can add to the optical illusion. If you cannot redo flooring, a large are rug is a good alternative that will give your apartment a few extra square inches of space.

Forget bold prints
One or two throw pillows with large geometric patterns will not do harm, of course, but too many bold prints in a tiny interior can make the room feel busy and cluttered, especially if they appear on a large surface. If you really want to have a decorative wallpaper, choose small, delicate prints in pastel colors. The same applies to rugs. If you need a strong accent, it is better to make a statement with modern wall art and keep the rest of the room solid. The more unified the elements of décor, the bigger your room will appear.

Use wise contrasts
The fact that it’s best to go pale and monochromatic doesn’t mean there is no place for contrasts at all. A clever trick used by interior decorators is painting the walls, trim, and molding in different shades of one color, the walls always being slightly darker. If you paint the walls icy blue or beige and have the moldings and trim bright white, the walls will appear further back and thus the room will seem somewhat bigger than in reality. A similar effect can be achieved if you pair a pastel wall with bright white furniture.
{Source: Cococozy}

Blend and link
It has already been pointed out – the more unified the décor of a tiny apartment, the greater the illusion of space will be. If you have a kitchen that opens to the living room (or any other adjacent spaces with little or no clear division), link them with the same flooring and wall color. Keeping to one color will give an impression of a larger living area. Also, consider having at least some of the bigger furniture pieces like chests of drawers or armories the same color as the walls, so they can blend together and visually widen out the room.
{Source: Danielle Oakey Interiors}

Let light in
Natural light is an unfailing space expander, so if you have large windows, make full use of them and keep window treatment to minimum. By leaving your windows uncovered and allowing plenty of natural light to flow freely inside the room, you will connect the room with the outdoors and create the illusion of depth. Elaborate window treatments draw too much attention, visually divide the room (they provide undesired contrast) and make it feel enclosed. If you don’t want to leave your windows completely bare, use simple sheer panels that blend with the color of the walls or are slightly lighter and keep them pulled back.
{Source: graciepi}

Use multi-function furniture
This one is not about fooling the eye – it is about making you space physically less cluttered. Double duty furniture pieces are priceless additions to any apartment, but if you’re particularly short on space, make them your holy grail of decorating. A comfy ottoman can transforms into a serving table (and don’t forget there’s plenty of storage space inside), a wall-hugging console can be opened to create a dining table suitable for many guests, a dresser can pulls its weight as a nightstand, and even what seems to be a desk for office work, can be turned into a twin bed with one easy motion.

Be transparent
Even furniture pieces that are moderate in size can make a small room feel cramped, but limited square footage doesn’t mean you have to live like in a squat, with just a mattress and a camping stove. Acrylic furniture is a great way out if you want to have a fully furnished apartment (with dining chairs, desk chair, console, etc.), but fear that it might make the space look cluttered.
Transparent furniture pieces blend seamlessly with the interior and look as if they weren't there at all. At the same time, they stand out enough to make a powerful style statement and give an instant upgrade to any decorating scheme – the so-called ghost chairs are one of the most sought after furniture items in the world.
