I Thought You Knew (Does it really matter?.....) Part 2

In this weeks edition of 'I Thought You Knew' i will be concluding the series i started last week. Which is  about some stories in the Bible that were usually misread or retold to make it perfect.Over history, people have developed strange misconceptions about the Bible and the tales it tells. This list hopes to put down some of the more obvious misconceptions people have about the Bible.

If you missed the previous edition click here

  • Adam and Eve’s Fruit

Contrary to popular belief, Adam and Eve did not eat an Apple in the book of Genesis. The fruit is not actually named at all – it is referred to only as the fruit of “the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil”. The reason this misconception has come about is most likely due to the fact that in Middle English, the word “apple” was used to refer to all fruit and nuts (except berries). Over the centuries, this word has stuck in reference to the Genesis fruit. [Genesis 2:17]

Does it really matter......?

  • Devilish Serpent

The serpent that convinced Eve to take the fruit from the tree of Knowledge and Evil is not referred to as Satan in Genesis. He is known only as the serpent who was “more subtle than any of the beasts of the earth”.  [Genesis 3]
Additionally, the term “Lucifer” used in reference to Satan comes from the Vulgate (Latin version of the Bible) translation of Isaiah 14:12 – at no point in the Bible is Satan directly referred to by the name Lucifer. But we all know Isaiah was referring to Satan, right?

Does it really matter......?

  • Noah’s Ark

We all know that the “animals went in two by two”… right? Wrong! In fact, all clean animals went in in groups of seven, and unclean animals in groups of two. According to Jewish dietary law, there are far more clean animals than unclean, so the majority of creatures entering the ark went in as a group of 7. [Genesis 7:2-3]

Does it really matter......?

  • Mary Magdalene’s Career
Nowhere in the Bible does it say that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. In fact, she is barely mentioned at all. Aside from her presence at the resurrection, the only other thing that the Bible does say is that she was possessed by seven demons. [Luke 8:2]

Does it really matter......?

  • The Prodigal Son

Contrary to popular belief, “Prodigal” means “characterized by a profuse or wasteful expenditure” – it is not a reference to leaving or returning. [Luke 15:11-32]

Does it really matter......?

  • The wall of Jericho

The children of Israel marched around the city of Jericho "seven times for seven days right"? Wrong!
God simply told Joshua to have the people to march silently around Jericho for six days, and then after seven circuits on the seventh day to shout. (Joshua 6:1-27) This meant that they marched around the city for thirteen times!

Today @ work #230714

Hallo an alle, ich habe schon ein wenig beschäftigt seit Anfang der Woche, daher meine Abwesenheit hier.
Just in case you don't understand what you just read, Google translator is your friend.

I created a new floor for my kitchen designs, it is actually easier dragging and dropping items than creating a new one all the time, in case you have noticed me using the same type of floor tiles. But you know, no two designs can be the same thing, there has to be something different, before all my kitchens starts to look alike.

Back to the business of today.

Google Sketchup the life changer, continued

Kitchen in 3D
After about an hour, I finished downloading the software, my phone battery was so hot then it could boil noddles. I quickly rushed home transferred the software from my phone to my laptop and installed it.

With no sort of manual or trainer, i started using the the software on my own, i basically trained myself. With sleepless nights designing and reading on how to utilize the software to it's full potential, i grew into it.

After using Google sketchup for over a year, it was evident that there was nothing i cant draw as long as i can imagine how it looks like. I draw with so much precision and details that it awes my colleagues and boss then, their praises i use as grease to rub my burning elbows while i forge ahead in my conquest of ruling my world.

Teenagers Room in 3D

Switched coy in mid 2012. Moved to a greener pasture, you know when the grass is greener, the effort to mow will be tougher! I got the job through Google Sketchup. Although the Cad they are familiar with was Palette Cad, I bought my way in through what I had mastered over two years.

During my time at the new company, i did various designs which included kitchen, bedroom, hotel and office furniture.

Every time I look back and remember that fateful day that I downloaded the software that changed my life, I can not but smile and be grateful to God.

Enough about my boring self! I have switched app now though, but Google Sketchup will forever be my first love.

Below are few of my designs using Google Sketchup.

I Thought You Knew (Does it really matter?.....)

In this weeks edition of 'I Thought You Knew' we will be discussing some stories in the Bible that were usually misread or retold to make it perfect. Have it in mind that these stories does not really change any thing. At the end of it all, ask yourself this question... Does it really matter?.......
  • Adam and Eve
Contrary to popular belief, Adam and Eve were expelled from Eden not because they ate the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, but in order to prevent them from eating from the tree of life (both forbidden trees are in Genesis 2:9) which would have made them eternal. God doesn't like competition! Here is the verse (Genesis 3:22-23): “And he said: Behold Adam is become as one of us, knowing good and evil: now, therefore, lest perhaps he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever. [23] And the Lord God sent him out of the paradise of pleasure, to till the earth from which he was taken.”

    Does it really matter?.......
    • Brothers Keeper
Another quote we all know from the Bible is “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Now ask yourself – do you know what God’s answer was to this question? You don’t – no one does because the Bible doesn't tell us what He replied. If God were to have answered, we can presume it would have been in the affirmative if all of the other commands to look after our brothers in the New Testament are taken into consideration.

    Does it really matter?.......
    • Samson and Delilah
Samson and Delilah is a famous story from the Old Testament which ends rather badly, as Samson’s long hair is cut short to destroy his strength. The common misconception is that Delilah was the one to give him the chop – a kind of ancient bobbit if you will. But in fact, it was Delilah’s servant who did it. (Judges 16 vs 19)

    Does it really matter?.......

    • Rapture
The “Rapture” is not in the Bible! Despite being believed by a large number of protestants (many of whom also believe that only that which is in the Bible can be true) it was actually invented in the 1600s by one Cotton Mather – otherwise famous for murdering women by strangling them to death (by hanging) in the Salem witch trials. The term in the Bible commonly mistranslated to the word “rapture” actually comes from the Greek ἁρπάζω (harpazo) which actually means “caught up” or “taken away” and it refers to one person only (Philip).

    Does it really matter?.......

    • The Three Wise Men
There weren't three and they didn't visit Jesus in a manger. The Bible gives neither the number of men (but does the number of gifts as three, which is probably where this misconception stems from).

Additionally, Herod demanded the death of all boys under two, making it probable that Christ had been born up to two years prior. Also, the wise men visited Jesus when he lived in a house according to the Biblical account in Matthew 2 vs 11 and not in the manger.

    Does it really matter?.......

    To be continued next week.
